AC Valhalla One-Handed Swords Are Coming Thanks To Fan Requests

1 post in this topic

An Assassin's Creed Valhalla developer has promised that one-handed swords will come to the open-world title after several months of fan requests. Despite their prominence in recent Assassin's Creed entries such as Origins and Odyssey, one-handed swords are but a dream in AC Valhalla. And fans have been dreaming of their addition since launch, regularly asking about the weapon's whereabouts whenever an opportunity arises.

Especially strange is the fact that one-handed swords aren't exactly rare in AC Valhalla; Eivor often battles enemies who wield one-handed swords as their weapon of choice. As things currently stand, the only swords available to the protagonist are of the two-handed variety, leaving players unable to simultaneously wield both a sword and shield. It's an odd omission considering the historical relevance of such weapons throughout the Middle Ages. Fortunately, the Ubisoft development team behind Viking adventure plans to eventually answer the call of fans.

While interviewing José Araiza, producer on AC Valhalla's post-launch content, YouTuber JorRaptor asked if the option to wield one -handed swords is on the way. According to the producer, "yes, it is coming." Araiza expressed surprise at the sheer number of fan requests for the feature's implementation. "Obviously, we want to do it right," he continued, adding that it takes "a little bit of time" to create a new sword type that doesn't look and feel like a reskin. And fans will be pleased to learn that such an addition is "already in the works." What Araiza didn't specify is when exactly players can expect to begin wielding the much-coveted weapons. (An excerpt from the interview starts rolling at the 2:00 mark.)

This news will no doubt please countless AC Valhalla players. After all, the feature is sorely missed, evidenced by the multiple Reddit threads centered around this particular topic. It's not the only coveted feature brought back by popular demand, either. Just recently the transmog system from AC Odyssey entered the mix, though fans aren't too pleased about the 50-silver price tag attached to the mechanic's use.

Developer Ubisoft Montréal continues to expand the overarching experience with new content. The limited-time Ostara Festival went live last week, for instance. AC Valhalla's first paid expansion, Wrath of the Druids, is slated for a late April launch; the second story-centric DLC, The Siege of Paris, remains on track for a summer release.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is in stores now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
