Batman: Arkham Knight Xbox Series X/S Upgrade Hinted At By Microsoft

1 post in this topic

An image on an official Xbox Wire post about updates to the Microsoft Store indicates Batman: Arkham Knight may receive a next-gen upgrade for Xbox Series X|S. As a nearly six-year-old title, Arkham Knight would most definitely benefit from a boost allowing for 4K visuals and 60 FPS capabilities.

Thus far, both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S have allowed a vast number of last-gen titles to reach their full potential. Overwatch recently received an Xbox Series upgrade, for instance, offering three different modes for graphics settings - Resolution, Balanced, and Framerate. As of writing, such an update has not yet made the leap to PS5. Still, Sony’s platform continues to help improve the performance of older titles in its own right, something Final Fantasy VII Remake fans will especially appreciate once the Intergrade upgrade drops this summer in mid-June.

An Xbox Wire post regarding improvements to the Microsoft Store on Xbox and the Xbox Game Pass app features an interesting piece of imagery. The picture is a screenshot of the store’s interface, in which a square icon near the middle boasts the Batman: Arkham Knight box art. Across the bottom of said icon sits two white tags - one dedicated to Game Pass, the other for an Xbox Series X|S upgrade. It stands to reason, then, that a next-gen update for Arkham Knight may be inbound, though Microsoft and WB Games haven't confirmed as much.

As mentioned above, graphical and performance boosts for Batman: Arkham Knight would be a welcomed treat. The game-changing freeflow combat system running at a smooth 60 frames per second would undoubtedly provide the perfect excuse to return to the mean streets of Gotham. But fans shouldn’t get too excited about the possibilities just yet. Presently, there’s no way of knowing whether or not such an upgrade is real. It's possible the Microsoft Store image is merely meant to serve as an artificial example of what the store's improvements have to offer.

Fortunately, the wait to explore an updated version of Gotham may soon come to an end. Online listings recently indicated Gotham Knights could launch in June 2021, though an official release date remains under wraps. While Bat-family-starring title from WB Games Montréal isn't a sequel to the Arkham series, it definitely seems to borrow from the Rocksteady-created franchise's core gameplay pillars.

Batman: Arkham Knight is available to play now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
