Evanescence Announces Graphic Anthology Series, 'Echoes from the Void'

Recommended Posts

A staple of the 2000s music scene, the band Evanescence has garnered itself widespread recognition, and now they're branching out into the world of comics to create a multi-media experience all their own. Echoes from the Void will mix music, visual art, and a plethora of powerhouse artists in order to create a fantasy comic book anthology like no one has ever seen.

Two-time Grammy award winners, Evanescence has been making music since the '90s and show no sign of stopping anytime soon. A large chunk of the upcoming anthology series is even going to based on music from their upcoming fourth studio album, 'The Bitter Truth.' But this new venture isn't just about the music, it's about integrating a variety of different forms of art and storytelling into a graphic narrative setting. Bandleader Amy Lee is overseeing the creative direction of the whole project.

The desire for this project is largely driven by Amy Lee's love of visual arts, graphic novels, and fantasy. By teaming up with Incendium and Heavy Metal, she and the band are getting the chance to bring their vision to life. The anthology will begin as a five-issue series, with each issue including two or more stories adapted from the band's music; and it is being produced by a powerhouse team of creators that includes graphic artists, animators, illustrators, screenwriters, novelists, and more. CEO of Incendium, Llexi Leon, claims that Echoes from the Void is "equal parts haunting and whimsical" and is "a fantastical journey that debuts a host of original characters and imaginative worlds that have been a joy to realize." Leon also attributes the unique body of work largely to Amy Lee's ability to push the envelope throughout the creative process.

“I am so excited about this project series. The possibilities are endless. Collaborating across art forms like this is so unique, and it’s been fascinating to see how many different lives a song can have, like alternate realities," says Amy Lee in regards to working on this new venture. She feels "honored to break open this new world" for the band's music.

The first issue will have stories written by Carrie Lee South and Blake Northcott, featuring illustrations from award-winning artist Abigail Larson and painter Kelly McKernan. It will also be available in a limited edition, as will the first prints of each issue, which will include a collectible comic book with cardstock covers, foil treatments, and more. Issue #1 is already available for pre-order here, and will ship in June 2021. The art from the series is also being made accessible in the form of an individually numbered 500-piece collection. Overall it sounds like this new series is prepped to be a unique and fantastical ride, bringing life to Evanescence's music in a whole new creative light.
