Hyper-Detailed Minecraft Worlds Show Off Game's New Ray-Traced Visuals

1 post in this topic

Nvidia has shared an updated look at Minecraft with ray tracing enabled, showing hyper-detailed worlds and environments. Currently available for the Windows 10 version of the game as a beta, Minecraft's official RTX makeover was initially presented back in April.

The exciting collaboration between Minecraft and Nvidia started when Mojang’s game was treated with some amazing RTX refinement this spring. It wasn’t the first visual upgrade for the game, though, as numerous modders have been tweaking Minecraft’s graphics for years now, including unofficial ray tracing efforts. But while players previously had to rely on members of the vast community to receive such massive enhancements, now it appears that Nvidia has taken over enabling full-scale RTX support in Minecraft. That being said, the community is still involved in the recent initiative.

The latest RTX reveal by Nvidia showcases a couple of custom Minecraft worlds that are taking advantage of ray tracing technology. According to Nvidia, this unexpected release is dedicated to its line-up of brand new GeForce RTX 30 Series GPUs, which will come in handy when launching new Minecraft RTX-enabled levels. The worlds are built by famous content creators specifically for Nvidia to turn them into visual masterpieces that support RTX enhancements. Additionally, these are not just simple maps, but fully interactive adventures with NPCs, engaging narratives, and more. They even include physically rendered textures and new gameplay features. Both the worlds listed in the announcement, Portal Pioneers RTX and Fins n’ Flippers RTX, are free to download via Minecraft Marketplace.

Other recent official efforts to enrich the Minecraft experience through the Marketplace include Minecraft's Jurassic World DLC, which brought its own thrilling set of new features. The add-on introduced some never-before-seen gameplay mechanics on top of offering a fully functional Jurassic Park to build. Players received the ability to create their own facilities capable of containing and breeding prehistoric creatures, as well as to explore the world in vehicles and helicopters. If only the DLC supported RTX, its dinosaurs would have looked terrifyingly realistic despite their cuboid nature.
